In 2024, the World Economic Forum for the first time ranked mis- and disinformation the top global risk of the immediate term. Disinformation, often called ‘Fake News’, impacts communities, governments and the infrastructure and energy sectors. This has become an increasingly critical issue for all levels of governance, including local. This foundational course will explore the significant implications for infrastructure and energy professionals as targeted campaigns are waged against specific initiatives like the renewable energy transition and key urban infrastructure, as well as the challenges of operating in communities where disinformation is actively driving polarisation and distrust.

The presentations, case studies and interactive live sessions will include the latest ground-breaking research from the 2024 Disinformation in the City Response Playbook – which lead trainer Ika Trijsburg was part of, together with insights from the Australian National University’s Institute for Infrastructure in Society. This applied research has been developed over 8 years across more than $230B in infrastructure delivery.
This evidence will be discussed in the context of the facilitators extensive first-hand expertise delivering complex and controversial infrastructure and energy projects.

This course will be delivered entirely online. Participants can opt in to an additional 30-min course orientation/meet and greet prior to the masterclass to help get the most from the course and build professional networks.
